Volgens dierenhulporganisaties werden honden en katten bewust mishandeld, uitgehongerd en soms verminkt om via sociale media meer donaties binnen te halen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gewonden dieren in meerdere accounts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het onderzoek begon in 2023 nadat dezelfde gewonde dieren op meerdere accounts verschenen. Onderzoekers verzamelden bewijs, voerden undercoverbezoeken uit en ondersteunden politie-invallen. Daarbij ontvingen zij doodsbedreigingen en werden er pogingen gedaan om de hoofdonderzoeker aan te rijden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bij de invallen werden 153 dieren aangetroffen in ernstige verwaarlozing. Op \u00e9\u00e9n locatie troffen onderzoekers honden aan die door andere honden waren opgegeten, vermoedelijk door extreme honger. Volgens de onderzoeksdossiers stierven minstens 23 honden en 13 katten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Waarschuwing voor donateurs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De zaak is ook relevant voor Nederlandse donateurs. Volgens onderzoekers haalden de nep-opvangcentra via sociale media en betaalplatforms honderden duizenden dollars op bij dierenliefhebbers wereldwijd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dierenhulporganisaties adviseren daarom alleen te doneren aan erkende goede doelen met een ANBI-status.
