Although the violence has eased, the suffering of Gaza’s animals continues.

Donkeys have become essential for transporting people and supplies across the devastated landscape. Many are exhausted, wounded and starving. At the same time, thousands of dogs and cats are struggling to survive because their owners can no longer afford food or veterinary care.

For more than two years, Animal Heroes has operated an emergency veterinary clinic in Gaza. Currently led by our local veterinarian, Dr. Hosam, we provide life-saving treatment to donkeys, horses, stray animals and the pets of displaced families. We also run a feeding programme for animals that would otherwise go hungry.

Your donation provides emergency veterinary care, medicines and food to animals that need it most.

We have a local emergency aid team in Gaza. Whenever possible, we always visit our projects in person, because we believe this is the best way to understand the situation and the need for emergency aid. However, we are not currently traveling to Gaza, because international NGOs are currently required to comply with conditions that violate Dutch privacy legislation.

We are an international emergency aid organization for animals, based in Amsterdam. We support local animal heroes—people who care for animals in the most difficult circumstances—with fast and efficient emergency aid. We have completed aid missions during wars, after earthquakes, floods, and forest fires in Lebanon, Turkey, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, Greece, Gaza, Uganda, and the West Bank.

Unfortunately, that is not possible because the transport costs are too high. We purchase food locally, which is much cheaper and also saves us transport costs.

In that case, your donation will be used for a similar aid project.

At Animal Heroes, we only work with volunteers who do not receive any financial compensation. We also do not have any offices, and as a modern organization, we do not send any printed material to our donors. Our overhead costs are therefore extremely low.

However, we do have fixed costs for maintaining our website, software licenses, and paying bank charges.

To date, we have always spent 100% of donations on the cause. We do keep a small reserve in case of unforeseen costs. In that case, a maximum of 15% is used to cover costs such as administration, project, and bank charges.

Yes, we are a registered charity with ANBI status based in Amsterdam.
