Lebanon is under heavy attack, and the crisis is escalating rapidly for both people and animals. Many residents have fled, leaving their pets behind, while THOUSANDS of stray animals are trapped in war zones – frightened, injured, and dying.
Why do animals in Lebanon suffer?
We work together with two of our trusted partner organisations, Give Me A Paw and Rescuing In Lebanon that are on the front lines. Their teams are risking their lives to save countless helpless animals. We’ve been working closely with both organisations for the past months to set up a joint aid project. Their dedication to rescuing animals in this war-torn region is nothing short of heroic.
On September 27th, we received an urgent call for help from Tamara from Give Me A Paw. Lebanon’s severe economic crisis, coupled with soaring inflation, had already pushed animal shelters to the brink. Now, with the ongoing conflict, these organisations are facing impossible odds. They simply don’t have the resources to rescue animals without immediate financial support.
Our fellow animal rescuers in Lebanon are risking everything, but they cannot do it alone. They need our help – your help – to save as many lives as possible.
Your donation will enable Give Me A Paw and Rescuing In Lebanon to rescue animals by:

We planned to visit our two partnerorganisations this summer but had to postpone our trip due to the escalating violence in the country. It is still possible to fly to Lebanon, but there is no certainty we would be able to leave the country. What is needed the most is finanicial help for the teams currently on the ground, which is what we are providing.
Give me a Paw is one of Lebanon’s leading animal rescue organisations. It is run by a dedicated team of eight, who care for 113 animals at their shelter. Amid this crisis, the team is working tirelessly while risking their own lives to rescue displaced, injured, and trapped animals from the war zones, ensuring they are brought to safety.Yes, we plan to start structural aid for as long as needed.
Rescuing in Lebanon is an animal rescue organisation founded by the 23 year old, Sarah Abbas. Sarah saves injured and displaced animals and finds them forever homes. On September 27th, her family home was reduced to ashes in the bombings. Sarah’s response to us? “It’s okay, we’ll build it again, but the amount of animals that are suffering, that’s what is terrifying.” Despite her personal losses, Sarah continues to rescue and care for animals from the hardest-hit areas, ensuring they receive the treatment and care they desperately need.prior shipment containing medicine for animals was refused at the border earlier this year. To minimise the risk of our shipment being refused at the border, we have decided to send only food on the first shipment. For the second transport we aim to include also medicine.
No, because the costs to ship goods to Lebanon are too high.
At Animal Heroes we only work with volunteers who do not receive any financial compensation. We also don’t have offices, and we don’t send printed material to our donors. Our overheads are therefore incredibly low. However, we do have fixed costs to maintain our website, software licenses and to pay bank costs. A maximum of 15% will be used to cover the running costs, including administration, project costs, and bank fees.
Yes, we are a registered charity, with an ANBI status based in Amsterdam. We also have an operational office in Italy and an international team consisting of professionals from nine different countries who dedicate their free time to help animals in need.
