Joke van der Post is a Dutch veterinary nurse who lives in Egypt and is committed to saving donkeys and horses. She runs a shelter and a veterinary clinic for abused and neglected horses and donkeys.

Death threats

Joke was recently in the news after she intervened in the mistreatment of a donkey. Since then, she has received daily death threats from men in Egypt. Despite personal risks – including arrest and possible imprisonment – she remains determined to fight for animal welfare in Egypt.

The shelter

Joke has 70 horses and donkeys in her shelter and her team also treats 80 to 100 animals a day in their veterinary clinic on busy days.

No, because it would cost too much to ship goods. What they need most is money for food and medicine.

Yes, we are a registered charity, with an ANBI status based in Amsterdam. We also have an operational office in Italy and an international team made up of professionals from nine different countries who spend their free time helping animals in need.
